- | ====== Fromm-class Project K784 Guided Missile Destroyer ======
- | The Fromm class or the Project K-784 is a guided missile destroyer operated by the Colonial Pact Navy of the faction:valmet_colonial_pact:faction_page. These vessels where introduced as part of a new line of modernized escort vessels starting in NCC00966 and have generally replaced their predecessor destroyer designs over the last several decades. Unlike the previous series of destroyer type vessels the Fromm and its various derivative classes where created with the intention of them operating both with fleets and on small formation or solo operations. As such the overall size of the vessel was increased but the armor protection remained the same, trading it for increased stores and a larger complement of sub-craft such as fighters and transports. Its brutally industrial design as well as the generally modular nature of its interior have allowed it to stay current even after thirty years of general production.

- | ==== Appearance ==== | ||
- | As stated above and clearly shown below the Fromm is a very industrial and mass production oriented design with little thought or flair given to pleasing the eye or artistic liberty. Every angle and shape is simply to purpose and as a result the destroyer is fairly sharp and boxy in look and shape, purposeful protrusions be they weapon or sensor are placed for optimum performance rather then following any attempt at making the ship look good. Her main battery is seem with two guns on top of the hull and two on the bottom, the latter being capable of superfiring boward. Two secondary batteries have been placed on the lower forward section of the superstructure in a chin side by side style configuration. Her primary striking weapon however is hidden underneath one primary vertical launch deck on the forward bow and two secondary batteries on either side of the hull under the drive system pods. Other notable features include her large solid hanger doors and the sixteen level armored hatches protecting the ship's point defense arrays.

- | ===== Internal Arrangement =====
- | Key locations within the Fromm-class Guided Missile Destroyer.\\
- | ==== Command Section ====
- | Effectively the brain of the ship and the beginning of its nervous system, the command section is above the residential section and wrapped in the same armored citadel. However an additional few layers of armor and EM shielding further increase the protection on this important part of the ship. It is comprised of three main sections and toward the stern a double lift compartment sealed from the rest by blast doors.
- | == Bridge == | ||
- | The forward most section of the ship, the bridge is primarily used for navigation however on the chance of the CIC being disabled it features stations to handle that compartments functions albeit at a more limited capability. The bridge itself is spherical in shape with the actual personnel areas being on catwalks overlooking a compartment wide display of the space surrounding the ship. There are six stations and one command chair centrally mounted among them. These stations are as follows; navigation, communications, steerage, ship engineering, operations/sensors, and armaments. The entrance is comprised of a armored drop type blast door and there are multiple pull out cover panels that can be used in the event of boarding. The bridge also features an armory of various small arms, though the exact composition is up to the ship's captain. This compartment also features an access way to an escape shuttle in the lower sections of the compartment that can be accessed via a ladder.
- | == Command and Control ==
- | The central compartment of the command section and separated from both by armored blast doors, the Command and Control Center or CIC is the nerve center of the ship. Unlike most views and popular conceptions this is where most of the ship's operations are handled, the various stations inside the compartment interpreting both data from inside the ship and operations taking place far beyond her hull. It features eight such terminals, four on each side of the compartment and a centrally mounted holographic display. Like the bridge there is a small side access hatch that leads to an escape shuttle. Like the bridge in the event of boarding there are pull out cover panels and a small arms locker.
- | == Security Section ==
- | The primary separation between the command centers of the ship and the rest of the vessel, it consists of two armored cubicles separated by an air tight blast door. Roughly twenty meters of open deck and passageway are between them and the doors to the lift compartment, various automated defenses effectively turn this space into a kill box for any potential assaulters looking to take the ships nerve center. In the event the blast door is breached, behind this security station are a squad of Pact marines typically in full power armor behind cover. While not always manned to the full extent it none the less serves its purpose as a speed bump in the event the ship is boarded.
- | |||
- | | ||
- | ==== Residential Sections ====
- | Located centrally in the ship above the vessel's cavernous hanger bay, the residential section sits within its own armored citadel consisting of both multiple layers of protection and its own pressure hull. Six lifts serve to link it with the rest of the ship both going down into the hanger and engineering sections and up into the command deck. Some secondary options including a few linked crawlspaces may also allow other methods of access in emergencies. This deck also features most of the ship's lifeboats and escape pods mostly running in two long outside passageways which access them all in one long row.
- | == Officer Country == | ||
- | Located in the upper sections of the residential deck, this section houses most of the officers that live on board the ship. Primarily consisting of dual occupant cabins with the exception of five single occupant cabins; these being for the ship's captain, executive officer, airwing commander, head of engineering, and the marine combat detachment. This section features its own large wardroom for upper level command briefings, a twenty bed medical bay, and an officers canteen. Various storage compartments and small armories are scattered throughout the section, the latter holding various small arms and light power armor.
- | == Enlisted Section ==
- | Composed mostly of bunk style 12-man berthing compartments, this section of the residential block is intended for the various enlisted men that serve on board the ship. It features larger and slightly less nice versions of the officer's mess, typically paired with larger 'entertainment' compartments intended for crewmen to use in their off time. They also feature their own larger medical compartments, laundry rooms, and heads. Senior enlisted are typically berthed nearby in two-man cabins with their own private wash facilities. Like the officer's section this one is also tied into the near hull passage that allows ready and quick access to escape pods and lifeboats.
- | |||
- | == Marine Section == | ||
- | Unlike the rest of the Residential Section the Marine Berthing Section or MBS is configured to allow the ship's ready use ground troops quick access to both their power armor and their means of exiting the ship. In this case their block offers direct routes to both the drop pod bay and the main hanger bay. However aside from its location and direct access to arms and armor it is constructed as a direct copy of the regular enlisted section.
- | |||
- | == Armory == | ||
- | Virtually every level has an arms storage location of somekind, the size and the type of weapons within however vary by location and the needs of those nearby. Small arms such as rifles, pistols, and shotguns can be found inside lockers, closet sized compartments, and some larger spaces. These are typically intended to equip crewmen and security personnel on the fly and are typically accompanied by body armor, normal suits (pressured atmospheric suits), and grenades. Heavy weapons lockers and heavier types of personal weapons such as those used by power armor are typically located alongside Armor Storage spaces and near critical ship points or near the personnel that are trained to use them such as the ship's Marine complement berthing section.
- | |||
- | == Armor Storage == | ||
- | There are two types of armor storage on onboard, the first being those that are used to store the lighter weight exo-suits and their under gear. These can typically be gotten into with little need for outside assistance and are typically found in compartments in a storage locker configuration. The larger power armor units are typically stored together in enclosures within the compartment held up by straps, these storage compartments are typically located along side troop residential blocs and near critical ship points. The composition of the armors stored there can vary depending on whom it is near, such as primary Marine use armors will be the only thing found in a compartment near a Marine residential bloc.
- | |||
- | | ||
- | ==== Engineering Section ====
- | Located between the primary residential block and the hanger section, the Engineering spaces run from bow to stern with a large eight meter wide and eight meter tall central passage. Four large lifts capable of handling vehicles are spaced equally and allow for damaged vehicles or sections and engines from sub-craft to be moved up into this section to be repaired.
- | == Fabrication Bay == | ||
- | A vast and open bay located just behind the middle of the vessel, it reaches up and over the central passageway with various lifts dropping down into it as well as side access doors. As its name suggests it is a large fabrication plant intended to produce replacements for damaged ship parts, hull sections, and anything else that requires a 'from the ground up' replacement. Large machinery, 3D printers, and various other gear is used to turn raw material into workable base parts that can either be moved directly to where they're needed or passed along to the machining bay to be used in the process of building up more complex components.

- | ===== Ship Systems =====
- | Ship's internal systems. Power, propulsion, electronics and support systems.
- | ====Power and Propulsion====
- | The Fromm employs a mixed power/propulsion unit with a single reactor typically providing the startup power to ignite the ship's propulsion units, then these combined systems provide power to operate the ships systems at standard capacity and beyond. As a result these systems and the sub-components tied into them are located in close proximity, in the case of the Fromm class at the rear of the vessel further details are below.
- | == Power == | ||
- | The starship employs a single large CLFFR type fusion powerplant employing a high density liquid metallic hydrogen fuel source fed into a ten meter diameter containment vessel. Employ electromagnetic and gravity pinching mechanisms to squeeze the stream to the point of high density fusion, the reactor effectively maintains a meter diameter sphere of fusing fuel akin to a small star during operations. The extreme heat and radiative energy given off by this body is converted directly into usable energy by the interior lining of the reaction chamber, with roughly three quarters of it going to this paneling with the rest being cooling and reaction stopping mechanisms.
- | |||
- | However when the reactors are not active the ship can rely on a number of capacitor systems and long lived fission-thermal type power generation devices. The latter of which are located strategically throughout the ship to reduce the chance of all of them being knocked out by one attack or incident.
- | == Propulsion == | ||
- | Three main propulsion units of the CMISFD-type provide forward directional thrust for the starship. Steerage is provided by a mixture of electromagnetic and mechanical ducting of the main drive array aided by strategically placed strike craft grade CMISFD-type thrusters. While active these drive systems also provide a percentage of their output as power to the ship's electrical grid. These systems are governed based on whether or not the starship is in atmosphere, however while in a gravity well the ship may employ its centrally mounted gravitic repulsion drive to hover in atmosphere. Effectively allowing it to conduct operations without the need to use direct thrust during the duration of its stay in a gravity well. For faster then light travel the destroyer employs a point to point fold drive of Colonial Pact design and manufacture. Like most systems of this type it is restricted to use outside of the central portion of a star's hillsphere.
- | ==== Shipboard Electronics ====
- | Like most military starships the Fromm carries a wide variety of electronics, from its main computer system secure in its armored bubble below the ship's CIC to the thousands of miles of cables that run throughout its hull. Like all ships that traverse the vacuum of space these sensitive systems sit behind a myriad of defenses against the various hazards to the their existence, often the thickest and most cumbersome being the measures against radiation and EMP effects given off by various spacial phenomena.
- | ==Computer Systems==
- | The primary central computer systems of the Fromm class consist of a pair of ENQ-901 type quantum computing mainframe computer cores fitted into the ship's command citadel hull, to be more precise the primary entrance to their mounting compartment consists of a hatch at the bottom of the bridge's display sphere. Effectively shielded and isolated from the ship with the exception of their power and data linkages (the latter of which can be disconnected if the network is compromised), these two cores serve as the primary computing power of the ship's systems. One is often detailed to handle the ship's normal operations while the other is dedicated to sensor data interpretation and weapons fire control.
- | |||
- | If the ENQ-901 processors could be considered the brain of the Fromm class the ENQ-607 SSS3CM computing mainframe could be considered its nervous system. Composed of various networked computer systems varying in size and power, it effectively links the ship's primary computing core with the rest of itself. From those control systems intended for critical ship infrastructure to the personal terminals found inside each crew member's bunk, each are linked. In the event of network comprise the network can being air gapping parts of itself up to and include separating from the main computing cores.
- | ==Sensor Systems== | ||
- | The Fromm like most military starships employs a mixed grouping of both passive and active sensor systems of varying types and performance. These sensors and arrays are listed and described below.
- | |||
- | ***Mean Average Active Sensor Range -** Target transient detection up to 140 astronomical units, high definition capable of positive target identification typically falls at 80 astronomical units depending on astrological conditions.
- | ***Mean Average Passive Sensor Range -** Target transient detection up to 190 astronomical units, high definition capable of positive target identification typically depends on conditions and the size of a target. For a vessel comparable to the Fromm-class it can detect and identify up to 100 astronomical units away depending on conditions on what sort of activities the vessel is carrying out.

- | *Exotic Waveform and Particle
- | |||
- | |||
- | == Communications Systems ==
- | Like most vessels of its size and scale the Fromm has a variety of communications and network systems that operate both inside and outside of the hull. To begin with she has a shipwide data network consisting of miles of hardline linkages, these are aided by wireless data communications links placed throughout the crew accessible areas. A secondary more hardened network is employed for the ship's subsystems and runs on a completely different mainframe. Finally in the event of shipwide power being knocked out, a tietary voice only network powered by fission batteries allows for shipwide communication albeit unencrypted and voice only.
- | |||
- | The ship mounts a wide variety of systems for external communication consisting primarily of laser and radio systems capable of transmitting at FTL or STL speeds. The highest priority use typically goes to the most powerful transmitter arrays used for fleet communication and interstellar communication with primary command networks. The second typically goes toward the ship's subcraft complement and the flight control guidance needed to operate them in a battlespace. Finally the ship employs dedicated arrays toward the support and communication operations of ground troops and infantry units using less powerful radio and laser systems.
- | === Electronic Warfare Systems ===
- | Like most military vessels the Fromm-class employs a mixture of electronic warfare devices of both passive and active natures in order to reduce the threat against guided munitions as well as reduce the effectiveness of enemy targeting systems on the ship. The three primary systems are listed and described below.
- | |||
- | ***Grom-3 Active Jammer**
- | *A powerful shipboard multispectral jamming system that can operate in either a general emission mode or in a selective narrow focus mode. The Grom-3 is primarily targeted against hostile ship, strikecraft, and guided munitions as a means to confuse or simply burn out sensors employs to detect and track targets using the various waveforms of the electromagnetic spectrum. Its effectiveness can vary due to ambient conditions as well as the quality of enemy electronic counter-countermeasures.
- | |||
- | ***Braza-3C Active Decoy Launcher**
- | *A factory sealed six shot launcher system that employs the starship scale mobile decoy drone system, it is used as a way to either enlarge the ships sensor signature by having them fly in close formation or as a means to distract or decoy away incoming strikecraft or ordinance. The latter of which can be done with either a straight line run, a pattern, or in a random adapative fashion depending on the enemy response to it. The Fromm has a total of six of these box launchers strategically mounted on the hull surface to provide full coverage from all the main ship approaches.
- | |||
- | ***Sokol-4 Flare and Chaff Launcher**
- | *Consisting of individual eighty cell 100mm diameter munition tubes, each box launcher is loaded with half and half of each type of munition (chaff and maneuvering flares). Each flare can burn for up to two minutes and each chaff munition is capable of expanding out to a radius of two kilometers in zero-gravity conditions.
- | |||
- | ==== Life Support ====
- | Like most starships employed by the Colonial Pact the Fromm employs multiple life support and life maintenance systems under a hierarchy depending on the systems location and size. The first and the largest and most important of these systems is what is typically called the 'central life maintenance plant', effectively the core life support system with the largest capacity and is often the one under the most load. It is responsible for not only recycling, filtering, and monitoring air quality (full nuclear, biological, chemical, and nano-logical protection) but also handling the ships water supply with the same level of protection. As a result this particular system is almost as secure and defended against damage as the ship's munitions and central computer system, typically located nearby.
- | |||
- | However this central system isn't the only one, each major deck or deck section on larger vessels or stations will employ its own smaller version of this system. While not quite as armored or defended these systems can be operated if the main system is brought offline, each tuned to handle the needs of its deck with a comfortable margin of error. Often they will be operated in parallel of the central plant to reduce long term strain, though they'll be operated a reduced capacity.
- | |||
- | Finally each compartment features a smaller variant of the standard faction:valmet_colonial_pact:common_pact_systems:colonial_pact_compact_life_support used on vehicles and strikecraft, primarily as an emergency measure in order to keep anyone sealed inside alive until help can arrive or until they find a means of safely leaving the sealed compartment.

- | ===== Protection =====
- | The following section covers the various passive defensive systems of the Fromm-class Destroyer.
- | ==== Hull Armor ==== | ||
- | This section covers the hull armor of the destroyer.
- | *//Adaptive Optical Coating//
- | *Thickness: 10mm | ||
- | *Armor Configuration: Effectively a lacquer on the outer hull, the AOC or Adaptive Optical Coating is an active stealth system designed to reduce to the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared signature of the starship by up to ninety percent. It can also alter the visual of the ship to resemble a smaller vessel at a distance. Ambient conditions, the condition of the vessel, and the ability of the enemy's sensors can reduce this performance however.
- | |||
- | *//Standard Hull Plating//
- | *Thickness: 1200 mm | ||
- | *Armor Configuration: Consisting of a composite plating set it a materials:decasteel framework, the standard hull plating of the Fromm's structure is that of a layered 'cake' starting with an outer layer of materials:cerrosteel. Primarily intended to reduce, absorb, or disperse the threat of incoming energy weapons and shatter kinetic weapons. Behind this layer is a smaller plating set consisting of multiple layers of materials:decasteel cubes wrapped in a materials:kylar/materials:ensteel mesh. This layer is intended to disperse and absorb those blows which may penetrate the outer Cerrosteel layer. The backing for the standard hull plating consists of a similar Kylar Polymer mesh and alternating layers of insulation, radiological shielding, and hull breach sealant bladders.
- | |||
- | *//Critical Area Hull Plating//
- | *Thickness: 500mm | ||
- | *Armor Configuration: Located beneath the standard hull plating; this armor type is wrapped around critical crew areas, vital ship systems, and beneath the ship's vertical launch systems. It consists of a composite sandwich of alternating layers of materials:ensteel and materials:cerrosteel, usually cast and layered one by one. Like the standard hull plating it is also backed by a materials:kylar mesh and alternating layers of insulation, radiological shielding, and hull breach sealant bladders.
- | |||
- | |||
- | *//Internal Secondary Hull Plating//
- | *Thickness: 250mm | ||
- | *Armor Configuration: Internal armored cocoons, typically between primary crew areas and or acting as their internal pressure hull. The ISHP is typically cast materials:decasteel sections with an interior composite layers of insulation, radiological shielding, and hull breach sealant bladders.
- | ==== Shields ==== | ||
- | This vessel employs a Pact common type combined shield array with both active emitters, six to be precise, mounted to the exterior of the ship. These produce a 'hard' barrier type shield of transparent plasma in alternating onion like layers, effectively providing the vessel with a conformal 'armor' just off the ship's hull. The second is an internal field emitter which is wrapped around the inner skin of the ship's hull and also features further inner fields around the crew areas and critical ship systems. Known as the 'gravimetric field' it serves to protect the vessel against exotic energy and waveform threats
- | |||
- | | ||
- | =====Weapons Systems=====
- | Below are the various weapon systems with their mounting style and configurations described.
- | === Main Battery === | ||
- | Main ship gun weaponry.

- | *Two of these weapons are 'spinally' mounted with their bores being present on the front of the ship's bow, designed to work in tandem these two cannons produce a combined rate of fire of forty shots per minute.
- | *4x Twin Mount 35A15-970-N2 205mm 'Visker' Compressed Plasma Cannons - (Tier 11 Medium Anti-Ship)
- | *Eight N2 205mm plasma cannons are mounted in four twin gun turrets with two on top of the ship and two on the underside, three of these turrets are capable of superfiring with the fourth on top of the vessel mostly intended for stern defense.
- | === Secondary Battery ===
- | Secondary ship gun weaponry.
- | *2x Twin Mount 35A15-970-N1 130mm 'Bozar' Compressed Plasma Cannons - (Tier 10 Light Anti-Ship)
- | *Mounted on the outside of the lower bow in a 'chase gun' configuration, there are a total of four guns in two turrets in a twin mounted configuration. These effectively serve as light 'chin guns' for the destroyer.
- | === Point Defense === | ||
- | Point defense systems.
- | *16x wip:55a17-976_molniya_pds
- | *Mounted in rows of four on both sides of the ship's central superstructure and above and below, they serve as the primary anti-fighter measure for close in defense in case strikecraft have gotten past the primary missile defense measures. Each are mounted in box containers set into the ship's hull.
