What we couldn't observe at distance soon became apparent as the arks holding the human species approached the vast cloud. It was a mask, a cloak to hide what lay beyond the veil and the vast dark matter formation humanity hadn't been able to observe from earth. Within the veil, laid out before the eyes of those first settlers, was a vast field of star systems. Systems which were later found to be interlinked with gateways created by a now long gone alien race that would soon be known as the Ozymandians. Each system, clearly curated for a race remarkably similar to humanity in needs and biochemistry, hosted at least one habitable world.
