+The Vitari, a periphery race, like so many others in the region finds themselves between the ever divided attentions of the Alliance and the omnipresent threat of Imperial expansion. Located in a coreward region of the shared periphery known as the Yuravin Expanse their string of systems represents one of the only 'easy' crossings within several hundred lightyears. The theory being the passage of a blackhole sparked the creation of the eleven systems the small power calls their own while also leaving the rest of the stellar region devoid of anything but the void.
+For the Alliance the location holds some value but with little on the otherside of the periphery and larger issues further afield the galactic power has done little to aid the Vitari with their vast mutual neighbor toward the spinward side of the expanse.
+For the Imperium, the nearest region to the expanse is the Kroz'nya Sector, formerly a frontier region that has come under increasing focus and development in the last century with its possession and control having passed into the hands of House Leveskina. This particular entity is a large upper house of the nobility with roots on Sevastutav, their interests in the region originally started as a marriage of convenience. Observation and reports from various house members however eventually led to intersessions that ended with the hostile takeover of the sector. Sparked by years of lack luster management and rulership House Leveskina managed to leverage its influence and qualifications to displace and absorb or remove the region's previous nobility.
+For the Imperium, House Leveskina, and the previous rulers of the Sector the Vitari represent would could be a foundation stone for a greater expansion into the periphery. The species being industrious, capable, and with a cultural obsession centered around quality and honoring one's bargains, they would be a capable asset should any Shil'vati House manage to bring them into the fold. However as the previous House discovered during its economic and 'strong handed' annexation of the Vitari Glenstat System, the reptilian species was fiercely independent and with a broken word would hold a grudge for what could be generations. As a result of this misstep House Leveskina turned to the other tool the Imperium often employed, outright conquest.

+The next system in the chain that was held by the Vitari's Commerce Federation was now in the sights of an openly conquest minded Imperium. Known as Drecken, and managed by Clan Verhozen, it had been settled some three hundred years before and boasted a population of nearly one hundred million. Knowing the plans and intents of the Imperium from countless other similar situations, some Alliance propaganda, others second hand accounts from species that managed to slip out of the Imperial grasp, the Commerce Federation had moved what assets they had available into the system. However the Vitari knew that the situation simply didn't have a victory in the cards for them, the lopsided numbers of naval assets assuring an Imperial victory. But over the course of the first few days of their opening attacks they made the Imperium bleed and held the line long enough to see to a sizable evacuation all the way until the first landing ships touched down. More were allowed to leave until a representative of the House ordered their interdiction.

This corridor represents the only means of passage across the expanse for several thousand light-years. By the time this pathway was discovered by the Imperium and the Alliance the Vitari had already expanded to both ends of the corridor.
